Power Failure Recorded 8 times during probe of ‘power sector’ on Wednesday
On Wednesday, during the probe of the power sector by the Senate ad hoc committee, power failure was recorded a good eight times.
The proceedings, which began at 11:30a.m, ended abruptly at 4p.m, after there was power outages 8 times within 15 minutes.
This occurred when the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Ambassador Godknows Igali, was making a submission on behalf of electricity companies.
The participants of the proceedings had to use their phone light and video camera light to make presentation before the committee.
In spite of this, the lawmakers continued with the proceedings, using rechargeable lamps and camera lights.
Chairman of the Committee, Abubakar Kyari (APC, Borno North), was frustrated by the power outages, which he alleged to have been an effort to sabotage the proceedings.
He said: “The power outages experienced here today (yesterday) further underscores the relevance of this committee at this critical time, but we shall investigate whether or not they are deliberate.”
